Totem Puppet Carving Course with Martin Růžička (3 days)

Come and discover the secrets of totem puppet-making in this three-day carving course led by the experienced artist Martin Růžička, who has more than 25 years of experience in puppet making. This intensive course will guide you through the process of creating a unique totem puppet, from the initial design to the final assembly.

What to Expect Over the three days, you will learn the basics of working with wood and specific techniques for making totem puppets. Each day, you will work on a new phase of the creation process – from shaping the basic structure, detailed carving, and refining, to painting and assembling the puppet. At the end of the course, you will take home your own hand-carved totem puppet, ready to use.

Course Program

• Day 1: Designing and shaping the basic structure of the totem puppet. You will learn how to carve the main parts and how to work with the wood to ensure the puppet is balanced and functional.
• Day 2: Detailed carving and decorating of the puppet, focusing on the facial features, hands, and other parts.
• Day 3: Painting and final assembly of the puppet. You will learn how to properly connect and prepare the puppet for manipulation.

Location The course takes place in Martin's workshop near Prague Castle, in an inspiring environment rich in craft traditions.

What to Bring You don't need to bring any tools; everything will be provided. We recommend wearing comfortable work clothes! The course is limited to 3 participants, ensuring individual attention and plenty of room for personal development.

Daily Schedule Each day starts at 9:00 and finishes at 17:00, with a break for lunch. The course lasts for three days, during which you will enjoy not only working with wood but also the opportunity to meet new people and learn something new.
