This marionette of Knight was created by carver Bohumil Bek from Kutna Hora in 1920 and was part of collection of Rudolf Kaiser.
In the case of the sale of this puppet, we dedicate half of the amount collected to the development of PUP - Puppet University Prague
The artistic carver, sculptor and restorer Bohumil Bek was the only one in the family who did not become a teacher, but an artist. In 1909, Bohumil moved to Kutná Hora, where he founded his workshop and produced altars and statues for churches, furniture, gift items and, last but not least, very charming and beautiful puppets. Its wooden mangers and statues can still be seen in several churches. This puppet is made of quality original materials.
My marionette-making workshop was the most fun I had during my visit to Prague! Everyone at Czech Marionettes was incredibly welcoming and encouraging. Lucy helped me to put the puppet together while another artist helped me to mix the paint. I love how it turned out! I wanted to do something different yet quintessentially Czech while I was here and this was the perfect choice! If you like arts and crafts and friendly people, youll enjoy this workshop. Sadly marionette theater performances are disappearing from Prague. But the talented people who carry on the traditions and artistic crafts are still here and they will gladly introduce you to this wonderful tradition.
Amazing! This little fellow is crafted with skill, love, and whimsy. I have several of the marionettes and each and everyone is a work of art. Cant recommend enough; adore!
