This tradition Czech devil looks harmless, but if you’re not behaving well, you might end up in his bag!
The puppets in this category represent the Czech tradition in puppet making. These are mostly small series cast puppets, which are then hand decorated by sewing and painting.
This marionette looks just like a real devil. He has a fur vest, chain and bag, horns and his long red tongue is sticking out. The character of devil is very popular in most Czech fairy tales and stories.
His body is hand carved from wood, his head and hands are cast from a resin and his clothes and accessories are handmade.
My marionette-making workshop was the most fun I had during my visit to Prague! Everyone at Czech Marionettes was incredibly welcoming and encouraging. Lucy helped me to put the puppet together while another artist helped me to mix the paint. I love how it turned out! I wanted to do something different yet quintessentially Czech while I was here and this was the perfect choice! If you like arts and crafts and friendly people, youll enjoy this workshop. Sadly marionette theater performances are disappearing from Prague. But the talented people who carry on the traditions and artistic crafts are still here and they will gladly introduce you to this wonderful tradition.
Amazing! This little fellow is crafted with skill, love, and whimsy. I have several of the marionettes and each and everyone is a work of art. Cant recommend enough; adore!
